PEARSON Solicitors & Financial Advisers has appointed a new conveyancing lawyer, Paul McGladdery, who has 30 years’ city centre experience including 17 years with a Manchester practice where he was a partner.

Paul, aged 52, is a chartered legal executive and has joined Pearson’s expanding commercial property team based at Hollinwood Business Centre. His career has included stints at large regional practices, a smaller niche practice and local government.

He grew up in Lees, Oldham, and attended Saddleworth school as a boy. By coincidence, his mother, Pauline, worked as a secretary for the Pearson law firm back in the 1960s.

After school, Paul’s first job was with Oldham Council’s legal department in 1984, where he stayed for 12 years, and then Manchester City Council. Later he joined law firms in Manchester and Liverpool, including Bullivant Jones, which later merged with Hill Dickinson, and Addleshaw Booth, which became Addleshaw Goddard in the early 2000s. Paul later joined Nexus Solicitors in central Manchester, where he was based for 17 years and a partner for 10 years.

Paul said he was delighted to be working with Pearson in the Oldham and north Manchester area. He added: “I‘ve dealt with Mike Pitt, Pearson’s head of commercial property, on numerous occasions over the years and I didn’t think twice when this opportunity arose. Pearson’s reputation in the borough and beyond far excels that of their competitors. It’s a perfect move for me, given my existing contacts in Oldham and my personal knowledge of the area.”

Paul will be working alongside Pearson’s commercial team.  His expertise lies in commercial conveyancing and the complex drafting it requires.

Away from work Paul enjoys music and comedy.

Christopher Burke, a Pearson partner and head of Commercial Litigation, welcomed Paul to the law firm. He said: “As a busy commercial team it’s great to have someone of Paul’s expertise and calibre on board, offering bespoke commercial property law.

“Our commercial property team really has strength and depth to deal with the wide range of clients we work with. We see his appointment as key in providing quality service to our existing and growing client base, as well as providing crucial support to the commercial team at Pearson.”

Pearson Solicitors & Financial Advisers offers a comprehensive range of legal and financial services for businesses of all sizes and types. It serves businesses locally, regionally and nationally from its offices in Oldham town centre, Hollinwood Business Centre, close to Junction 22 of the M60 motorway, and in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside.

Pearson’s services for businesses include debt recovery and employment law. Recent examples include Pearson chartered legal executive Asa Cocker working for Vangard Ltd of Royton, to solve the debt recovery problem. He issued a court proceeding against the debtor, successfully obtained a court judgement and recovered the debt and costs for Vangard without the need for a trial.

Kath Brewer, Vangard office manager, said: “Pearson was professional and kept me up to date throughout the whole process. We are very pleased with the result and the efficiency of Asa.”

Meanwhile, in employment law, Pearson’s Susan Mayall provides a bespoke service to GTD Healthcare in Denton.  GTD provides primary care, urgent care and emergency out-of-hours dental care across the north-west region. Susan advises GTD on employment law across a range of workplace issues including HR policies, contract agreements and discipline procedures. She visits GTD weekly, liaises with the health firm’s HR staff and advises them.

Sharon Tal, corporate administration manager at GTD Healthcare, said: “We work closely with Susan who is exceptional in every way. She has taken the time to understand our business and her advice demonstrates her vast experience and knowledge.”
