New T-Levels launching at Oldham College in September

Alun Francis, Principle and Chief Executive, Oldham College talks about the new T-Levels launching in September 2021

OLDHAM COLLEGE is ready to start delivering T-Level qualifications in September – and recruitment for these courses is open now.

T-Levels are a new, two-year, high-level qualification offering a radically different option for learners after GCSEs.

The courses are designed to give students a head start towards their future career, with each T-Level equivalent to three A -Level qualifications.

Developed in close collaboration with employers and businesses to ensure their content meets industry needs and prepares learners better for the world of work, T-Levels ensure students receive a mix of 80 per cent classroom-based learning and alongside 20 per cent on-the-job experience in a real workplace.

This means they can be confident that their T-Level – a nationally recognised qualification supported by leading local and national firms – will help them stand out and reach the next level across a range of occupations.

Learners can then progress into a skilled job or choose to pursue further technical training, including a Higher Apprenticeship or degree.

Alun Francis, Principal and Chief Executive, said: “Oldham College is uniquely placed to deliver T-Levels because of our proven track record and experience in delivering technical education.

“Our strong links with hundreds of local, regional and national employers sets apart our offer.

“We also have teaching staff with extensive technical and professional expertise from time served in industry, and our learners will be taught in state-of-the-art specialist facilities, like our new Construction Centre.

“T-Levels are a great way to combine the benefits of both technical and theory-based learning. Going back to sitting behind desks in classrooms to do A Levels isn’t what an increasing numbers of learners want to do after their GCSEs, so this new route offers them the chance to get a head start across a variety of industries and trades.”

From September 2021 Oldham College is offering T-Levels across three Key Worker sectors: Caring Professions and Science; Construction; Digital and Creative.

The courses open up pathways into a range of careers from teaching and nursing to therapy and forensic science, build, design or maintenance technicians, data analysts, web or app developers or digital marketeers – and much more.

Bursary funding is available to support T-Level students’ work placements with travel and other costs.
