A barrister from Royton has used her spare time in between legal work to create a luxury home fragrance business.

Inspired by her love of fragrances, Sarah Wait set up Bee Happy UK in July 2020, offering handmade home fragrance products including candles, reed diffusers and wax melts.

Sarah told Business Edge: “I wanted to open up the luxury candle market to everyone.  I don’t believe that high quality and ethically produced home fragrance products have to be expensive”.

“The entire Bee Happy UK range is vegan friendly and cruelty free.  Products are made from biodegradable wax and are made using green energy.  All our packaging is recyclable and compostable.”

Sarah said that the lockdown presented an opportunity to interest customers, who were now staying indoors more than ever. The instinct turned out to be right, with a growth in on-line sales at www.beehappyorders.com and through the business’s social media channels.

However, Sarah says the lockdown has presented some obstacles to the business. “We’ve essentially been an on-line-only business up to now.  This has been quite challenging because we’re asking customers to make a purchase based on how the products smell!”

Once Covid restrictions are lifted, Sarah hopes to get out and about to markets, fairs and pop-up shops.
